Do I Need a Will? 

If you want to make sure that your assets are distributed in line with your wishes, then you need to make a Will. Without a Will, your estate will be distributed according to intestacy rules and may be liable to Inheritance Tax, which might have been avoided  if you had made a Will.  

If you have made a Will then gifts between spouses are free from Inheritance tax, and if you want your spouse to benefit from the whole estate, then making a Will will ensure that the estate will not be distributed according to the laws of intestacy.

You can decide that your spouse can use the assets while they are alive and, when they die, direct the assets to go to your children as opposed to their next spouse or their children.
